Before you can send Absence Alerts, you must first:
- Create your Personal Notification (PN) Templates
- Configure your Absence Thresholds
This ensures:
- Your messaging is approved and aligned with school policy
- Alerts trigger at the correct absence levels
- You remain compliant with attendance guidelines
Once this setup is complete, sending alerts takes just minutes.
Part 1: Creating Your Absence Alert Templates
Step-by-Step: Creating PN Templates
1. Log In
If you are not already logged in:
- Go to uniqueschoolapp.ie
- Enter your login details
If already logged in, proceed to Step 2.
2. Go to PN Templates
From the main dashboard:
- Click Personal Notifications
- Click PN Templates
3. Click “Add”
Click the Add button to create a new template.

4. Select the Template Type
Choose the appropriate Template Type from the dropdown.
You will see preset options (Soon to be renamed Absence Threshold 1..2..3..4):
- TUSLA Option 1
- TUSLA Option 2
- TUSLA Option 3
- TUSLA Option 4
These correspond to key absence thresholds (typically 5, 10, 15, 20+ days).
5. Enter a Title
- Enter a clear Title
- This title is visible to parents
Example:
- “5 Days Absent Notification”
- “20 Days Absent – Formal Notice”
6. Enter the Template Content
Add the full message you wish to send to parents.
IMPORTANT:
- Keep wording generic
- Do not manually enter student details
The system automatically inserts:
- Student Name
- Year
- Class
- Total Days Absent
7. Click Submit
Tap Submit to save your template.
Repeat this process for each threshold (5, 10, 15, 20 days or as required by your policy).
About TUSLA Template Options (1–4)
These pre-set template types are designed for notifying parents at key absence milestones.
Typically used for:
- 5 days absent
- 10 days absent
- 15 days absent
- 20+ days absent
You can edit these templates at any time in the PN Templates section.
Part 2: Setting Up Absence Thresholds
Once templates are created, you must configure your thresholds.
Step-by-Step: Managing Absence Thresholds
1. Return to the Dashboard
Go back to:
uniqueschoolapp.ie
2. Navigate to TUSLA Notifications
- Under Attendance Overview
- Click TUSLA Notifications
(Soon to be renamed “Attendance Alerts”)
3. Click “Manage Absence Thresholds”
Click Manage Absence Thresholds
From here, you can:
- Add new thresholds
- Edit existing thresholds
- Delete thresholds if required

Typical Threshold Examples
Most schools use:
- 5 days
- 10 days
- 15 days
- 20 days
However, thresholds can be set to any number in line with school/department policy.

5 Days Absent Template
Dear Parent/Guardian,
This message is to inform you that our records show that your student has been absent from school for 5 days so far this school year. Regular school attendance is very important to your child’s success. When students miss school, even for a short time, it can impact their learning and progress. We want to partner with you to support your student in maintaining consistent attendance moving forward. Please ensure that all absences are explained through the school app.
If there are any circumstances affecting your student’s ability to attend school, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Year Head so we can work together to provide support.
Please note that this is a standardised message sent to all Parents/Guardians once their student has been absent for 5 days. If you have already explained their absences or linked in with the school for support, we are grateful.
10 Days Absent Template
Dear Parent/Guardian,
This message is to inform you that your student has now missed 10 days of school this year. Regular attendance is essential to academic success, and missing this many days can significantly impact learning progress.
We want to work with you to ensure your student is present and engaged in school as much as possible. If there are challenges making attendance difficult, please contact the Year Head so we can discuss possible supports.
Please remember that any medical or excused documentation should be submitted through the school app. We appreciate your attention to this matter.
Please note that this is a standardised message sent to all Parents/Guardians once their student has been absent for 10 days. If you have already explained their absences or linked in with the school for support, we are grateful.
15 Days Absent Template
Dear Parent/Guardian,
This message is to notify you that your student has now been absent from school for 15 days this school year. This level of absenteeism can be a concern, as it can affect both academic achievement and school engagement. Please ensure that all absences are explained through the school app.
We ask that you contact the Year Head as soon as possible to discuss this matter. If there are ongoing issues preventing your student from attending, we want to collaborate with you to identify solutions and supports.
Please note that continued absences may require further action in line with school and national attendance policies. We appreciate your attention to this matter.
Please note that this is a standardised message sent to all Parents/Guardians once their student has been absent for 15 days. If you have already explained their absences or linked in with the school for support, we are grateful.
20 Days Absent Template
Dear Parent/Guardian,
This message is to formally notify you that your student has now been absent from school for 20 days this school year. This level of absenteeism is a serious concern and can have a significant impact on your student’s academic progress, wellbeing, and long-term engagement with education.
Regular school attendance is a legal requirement, and at this stage it is essential that we work together to address any issues affecting your student’s ability to attend school consistently. Please ensure that all absences are fully explained through the school app.
We request that you contact the Year Head as a matter of urgency to discuss this situation and to explore any supports that may be required.
Please note that continued or unexplained absences may result in further action being taken in line with school policy and national attendance guidelines, including referral to the relevant authorities where necessary.
