This guide explains how to access the Detention Manager within the Unique Schools system and complete the essential first-time setup.
Before you can:
- Create detention sessions
- Add students to detention
- Send Personal Notifications to parents
- Track and manage detention records
You must first set up your Detention Time Slots and Detention Reasons.
These settings form the foundation of the Detention Manager and ensure your school has a clear, consistent structure in place. Once configured, staff can efficiently assign students, manage sessions, and communicate with parents directly through the app.
Completing this initial setup is a required first step before using the Detention Manager functionality.
Accessing Detention
1. Go to www.uniqueschoolapp.ie and log into the Dashboard.
2. Click on the Detention Manager

Choosing Notification Preferences
1. In the Detention Manager, click the Settings icon (top right corner).
2. Under Notifications, enable or disable the following:
- Automatic Personal Notifications: When a student is added or removed from Detention, the parent will receive a Notification Alert. This includes the reason and note if you added one. Adding a student directly from the Late list will auto-add Late as the reason.
- Manual Personal Notifications: Enabling this allows staff to send Notifications to parents in relation to the attendance of the student within the Mark Attendance section of the session.

Adding Time Slots
1. In the Detention Manager, click the Settings icon (top right corner).
2. Under the Time Slots section:
- Enter the Time Slot name you wish to create.
- Enter the time range for the detention.
Time Slot Name: Lunch Time
Time Range: 12:30pm – 1:00pm
5. Click Add Time Slot.
To delete a Time Slot, click the Bin icon beside the one you wish to remove.

Adding Detention Reasons
1. In the Detention Manager, click the Settings icon (top right corner).
2. Click on the Reasons tab.
3. Enter the Name of the Reason and click Add Reason.
Examples: Late, Uniform, Behaviour, etc.
You can enter a description that will be visible to the parent.
This description can be added either:
- When creating the session, or
- When adding the student to the session
As the reason for detention may vary from student to student, we recommend adding the description at the time you assign the student to detention.
This ensures the information is accurate, specific, and relevant to that particular incident.
To delete a Reason, click the Bin icon beside the one you wish to remove.
