Marking Attendance & Notifying Parents

Attendance & Communication Guide

This guide explains how to:

  • Mark attendance for a detention session
  • Move absentees to the next session
  • Notify parents/guardians of attendance outcomes

All communication sent through the Detention Manager is logged automatically on the student’s profile, ensuring full visibility and record-keeping within the Unique Schools system.

Marking Attendance in Detention

Any staff member with access to the Detention Manager can take the roll call.

Note: You can click on a student’s name at any time to open their profile and view full details, including previous detention attendance and communication history.

Step-by-Step: Marking Attendance

  1. Go to www.uniqueschoolapp.ie and log in.
  2. Click on Detention Manager.
  3. Locate the session you wish to mark and click the Mark Attendance icon on the right-hand side.
  4. On the attendance screen, mark each student as:
    • Present, or
    • Absent

Time-Saving Feature

If students are absent from detention, you can quickly move them to the next session:

Click “All Absentee to Next Detention” (top right of the screen).

This automatically adds all absent students to the next available detention session — saving significant admin time.

Sending Notifications to Parents/Guardians

After marking attendance, you can notify parents/guardians of the outcome.

Step-by-Step: Sending Notifications

  1. Go to www.uniqueschoolapp.ie and log in.
  2. Click on Detention Manager.
  3. Click the Mark Attendance icon beside the relevant session.
  4. Use the Attendance Filter to filter by:
    • Present
    • Absent
  5. Send the appropriate Personal Notification (PN):
    • Use the Absent template
    • Use the Present template
    • Or create a custom message if needed

Sending an Individual Notification

If you wish to contact a specific parent only:

  1. Click the Send PN icon on the far right of the student’s record.
  2. Select a template or write a custom message.

Note

All Personal Notifications sent through Detention Manager are automatically saved on the student’s profile.

This ensures a full communication history is maintained in one central location.

This structured process keeps detention management clear, consistent, and fully documented.
