Creating Notifications in the Administrators App

Share Important School-Wide Updates

The Administrators App allows you to post both News and Notifications

When Should You Use Notifications?

The Notifications feed is used for important, school-wide communications.

Notifications are appropriate for:

  • School closures
  • Weather warnings
  • Attendance updates
  • Procedure changes
  • Emergency information
  • Exam updates
  • Urgent reminders

Important

  • News and Notifications are public feeds
  • Any parent, guardian, or student registered on the app can view them
  • These are not private messages

If you need to send a message that is only visible to a specific individual or group, you must use Personal Notifications instead.

Personal Notifications are:

  • Private
  • Targeted
  • Only visible to selected recipients
  • Not available in the Administrators App
  • Accessible via uniqueschoolapp.ie (mobile responsive)

Step-by-Step: Creating a Notification

1. Open the Administrators App

  • Log in to the app.

2. Go to Notifications

  • On Android devices:
    • Tap the 3 horizontal lines (top left)
    • Select Notifications
  • On Apple devices:
    • Tap Notifications from the bottom menu

3. Tap the Plus Icon

  • Tap the + icon (bottom right) to create a new Notification.

4. Add Title & Message

  • Enter your Title
  • Enter your Message content

Remember: This will be visible to all registered app users.

5. Send as Push Notification (Optional Alert)

You can choose to alert specific users with a “beep” notification.

Important

The Notification will still be visible to everyone

The alert only controls who receives the ping.

To select who gets alerted:

  • Tap the Filter/Funnel icon (top right)
  • Select User Type (e.g. Parent)
  • Select the relevant Year(s)
  • Tap Save

Generally, we would be alerting the whole school to a Notification. To do this, select:

  • User Type: Parent, Students, Staff.
  • There is no need to select all years, once the above is selected, everyone will get an alert.

If you untick “Send as Push Notification”:

  • No one receives an alert
  • The Notification still appears in the feed

6. Add to Category (Optional)

  • Tap the Category dropdown
  • Choose the appropriate category (e.g. Sports, Trips, PTA)
  • Categories help organise the News feed.

7. Schedule (Optional)

Tap Schedule Notification and select:

  • Future Date
  • Time

8. Archive Date (Optional)

  • Tap Archive Date to choose when the Notification should be removed.
  • If no date is selected, the item automatically archives after 60 days.

9. Add Images & PDFs (Optional)

Tap the Paperclip/Attachment icon (top right).

You can:

  • Select images or videos from Cloud Cam
  • Upload a PDF from your device

Images

  • If no image is selected, the school crest will appear by default.
  • We strongly recommend adding a relevant image to improve engagement as this appears in the alert on the parents lock screen.

PDFs

  • Use PDFs only when necessary.
  • PDFs are designed for printable format and can be difficult to read on mobile devices.
  • Best practice:
Copy and paste the content into the message field instead.

10. Post to Social Media & Website (Optional)

You can also post directly to:

  • Facebook
  • X (Twitter)
  • Instagram
  • Website

If these options are not showing, please contact staffsupport@uniqueschools.ie

11. Tap Send

  • Tap the Send icon (bottom right) to publish the Notification.

Important Reminder

News = Public
Notifications = Public
Personal Notifications = Private & Targeted

If you need to send a message that only a specific group or individual should see, use Personal Notifications instead.

uniqueschoolapp.ie is accessible via mobile so you can send a Personal Notification from your phone through the browser.
