Sending & Searching Personal Notifications

Send, Manage and Track Personal Notifications with Ease

Personal Notifications allow you to communicate directly with an individual Parent, Guardian, or Staff Member—or with a specific group. This feature is ideal for targeted messaging that requires a more focused or confidential approach.

With Personal Notifications, you can:

  • See exactly who has read the message
  • Schedule automatic email reminders for unread messages
  • Enable replies for threaded, email-style conversations
  • Add users to an existing Personal Notification thread
  • Enable Private Mode so that only the creator and the Principal can view the notification
  • Maintain clear, direct communication with full visibility and control

Personal Notifications are a powerful way to manage private, targeted interactions within your school community.

 

Sending a Personal Notification

  1. Go to your Dashboard and tap on Personal notifications then in the dropdown select Manage Personal Notifications
  2. Tap on Add PN on the top right of the screen
  3. (Optional) Enable Reply if you are sending this to an individual family and require a response
  4. (Optional) Select a Template if there is one that applies to your message
  5. Enter the Title & Content
  6. (Optional) Add an Image, Video or PDF file
    1. Note - It's always recommended to add at least one image, otherwise it will show the school crest. Parents are less likely to open a message when they see the crest over and over again.
    2. Note - When adding PDF files, think twice. PDFs are not mobile responsive and viewing on mobile can be strenuous. When applicable, copy & paste the information into the content section of the PN for easy viewing.
  7. (Optional) Schedule a send date/time if needed, and set an Archive date to archive the PN—default archive date is 60 days after sending.
  8. Choose who you will Send To, this can be a Parent, Teacher or a Group that you have set up previously. 
  9. Apply filter 
  10. Select all or select relevant users that you wish to send the PN to
    1. Once you have selected the user(s) you want to Send To, add them to the Final List and click Add to Notification
  11. Settings
    1. Send as Push Notification - Alert the user with an app alert (Enabled by default)
    2. Send SMS - Send an SMS to those not registered on the app
    3. Unread Email reminder - This will send an email to the user after 24 hours if the message is still unread (Enabled by default)
    4. Include Student to PN - This will send the Personal Notification to the student 
    5. Mark as Private - Only the Principal and you will be able to see this PN in the list
  12. Preview the PN if you wish and then Submit to send it

 

Images
If no image is selected, the school crest will appear by default. We recommend uploading an image that visually supports the message, helping users better connect with the content. You can also use the US Icons provided by Unique Schools, available in the US Icons folder.

PDF
Use PDFs only when necessary, as they are designed for A4 screens and can be difficult to read on mobile devices. Instead, consider copying the content from your PDF and pasting it into the message description for better readability.

Send SMS
This option identifies users who do not have the school app installed and sends them an SMS containing the message along with links to download the app. All other users will receive the notification via the app.

Searching for Previously Sent Personal Notifications
You can use filters to quickly find a previously sent PN. This is useful for checking if a message was read or for exporting all messages sent to a specific student.

 

 

Searching for a Personal notification 

  1. Go to your Dashboard and tap on Personal Notifications then in the dropdown select Manage Personal Notifications
  2. You can Search by Title, Student Name or Created By
  3. (Optional) Filter by:
    1. Date - Default Today
    2. Created By - Default You
    3. Visibility - Allows you to view your Private PNs or all Public PNs
    4. Type - Default shows all custom PNs created by staff, you can view system generated PNs too such as when a student signs in late
    5. Status
      1. Published - Live in the app for parent to view
      2. Scheduled - Set to be published for a future date
      3. Archived - Still Live in the app but in the Archived section for parent to view
      4. Pending - Limited access user created a PN and it's awaiting approval from full access user before it goes live
      5. Draft - Staff member started creating a PN and did not send it, autosaves draft version
  4. (Optional) You can Export via the button on the top right of the screen

 

 

Publish
To make an archived/pending Personal Notification visible to assigned users, simply select the PN and tap Publish in the top-right corner of the screen.

Archive
To remove a published PN from the main view, you can archive it. Select the PN and tap Archive in the top-right corner.
Archived Personal Notifications remain visible to parents in the Archived section of the app.

Delete
To permanently remove a PN, select it and tap Delete in the top-right corner of the screen.
