What This Does
To use the video functionality within the Unique Schools system, your school must have a Vimeo account connected.
Once integrated, you will be able to:
- Upload videos directly via uniqueschoolapp.ie
- Upload via the Administrators App
Share videos instantly to:
- The School App
- Your School Website
- Social Media
- Avoid uploading the same video multiple times to different platforms
Everything can be managed in one place.
Step 1: Create a Vimeo Account
If your school does not already have one:
- Go to https://vimeo.com
- Create an account
- Choose a plan that suits your storage and privacy needs
- If you already have an account, simply log in.
Step 2: Create a Vimeo App
- Go to https://developer.vimeo.com
- Click Create an App
- Add a title and description
- Save the app
- Your app will now appear in your Vimeo Developer Dashboard.
Step 3: Generate API Credentials
From your Vimeo App settings, you will need:
- Client ID
- Client Secret
- Access Token
When generating the Access Token, ensure the following permissions are selected:
- public
- private
- upload
- edit
These permissions allow the system to securely upload and manage videos.
Step 4: Set Up Your Root Folder
- Go to https://vimeo.com/home
- Click Library
- Create a new folder (this will be your school’s main video folder)
- Open the folder and check the URL
Example URL format:
https://vimeo.com/user/12345678/folder/87654321
You will need:
Root User ID (the number after user/)
Root Folder ID (the number after folder/)

Important Note
To use video uploads within the Unique Schools system, your school must have a paid Vimeo account — the free plan does not support the level of video storage, privacy controls, and upload flexibility needed for integration.
Paid plans give you significantly more storage, advanced privacy settings, and the ability to manage and embed videos reliably across platforms, which the free tier does not provide.
Why a Paid Vimeo Plan Is Required
Free accounts have very limited storage and features that are insufficient for school use.
A paid plan ensures you get enough space and advanced controls for high-quality video uploads, privacy settings, and embedding — all essential for school communications.
The integration with the Unique Schools system requires API access and storage capacity that only paid plans support.
Standard Paid Plan Pricing
Vimeo’s Standard plan is €19/month (billed annually).
This entry-level plan provides significantly more storage and upload capacity than the free tier, and allows for third party integration.
