Use Late Alerts to notify parents/guardians when a student reaches your school’s cumulative late-occurrence threshold. Choose the period you want to review, check the students’ late counts and preview the message before sending.
Before your first alert: set up your school’s Late Alert thresholds and message templates. Late Alerts use late occurrences, while Absence Alerts use absence days. The Late tab is used to review individual late records.
In this guide
1. Open Late Alerts and choose a date range
- Sign in at uniqueschoolapp.ie.
- Open Attendance Overview → Late Alerts. Check the Academic Year at the top of the screen.
- Choose Academic year to date, This month, Last 30 days or Custom range from Date range. For a custom period, select the start and end dates in From - To.
- Check the dates shown and click Apply.
The date range matters: late counts and required threshold statuses are calculated using the selected date range. Recheck the list whenever you change the period. A monthly total may differ from the academic-year total.

Current Late Alerts controls. Student rows are cropped out. The 1, 2 and 3 late thresholds shown are examples from this school; your school’s values may differ.
2. Review and select students
- Use Search by name, Cumulative Lates Over, Year or Class to narrow the list. On smaller screens, open Filters first. The cumulative filter offers choices such as 1 or more, based on the configured thresholds.
- Review each student’s Cum. Lates and the threshold columns for the selected period. Check any previous alerts before sending another message.
- Tick the students who should receive the alert. Use the header checkbox only after checking the full selection, and untick anyone you want to leave out.
Use Clear filters to clear the student filters. Always check the displayed date range separately before sending.
3. Preview and send the alert
- Click Send Alerts to open the Send Late Alerts window.
- Choose the appropriate late-occurrence stage. Read the range beneath each option and check that it matches the students you selected.
- Review the Template Preview, including its Title and Description. Confirm that the wording fits the chosen threshold and review period.
- Click Send only when the students, date range, threshold and wording are correct. Choose Cancel to leave without sending.

No Personal Notification Template Found? Sending is disabled when there is no Late Alert template for the selected threshold. Use Click to set up notification template, or open Communications → Personal Notifications → PN Templates. Create the matching Late Alert Option template, then return and preview it before sending.
Common questions
Why did the late total change?
Check the academic year, date range and filters. The total is calculated for the selected period, so changing the dates can change which thresholds are required.
Does setting up a threshold send an alert?
No. Threshold setup and sending are separate steps. Review the list and complete the Send Alerts workflow when you are ready.
Can I use the same wording for every period?
Keep shared templates reusable. Avoid saying “this academic year” if staff may send alerts for a month or custom range. Use school-approved wording and check the preview each time.
