Add selected students to a detention session from the Late attendance list.
Before you start: complete Detention Access & Setup, including time slots, reasons and staff permissions. Follow your school’s policy when deciding which students should attend detention.
In this guide
1. Review the Late list
- Sign in at uniqueschoolapp.ie.
- Open Attendance Overview → Late.
- Set the date range you want to review.
- Use the authorisation and late-arrival filters to narrow the list.
- Pending: the student signed in late and an explanation is still outstanding.
- Unauthorised: the parent did not authorise the late.
- Late Arrivals ≥: enter a minimum count, such as 2, for the selected period.
For example, if this matches your school’s policy, select Last Week, review Pending or Unauthorised lates, and filter for two or more arrivals.
2. Assign a detention session
- Review each student before selecting them.
- Tick the students to add. Use Select All only after checking the full list.
- Click Add to Detention.
- Select an existing session or create a one-off session.
- Check the details and click Submit.
Recurring sessions: create these in Detention Manager first, then select the appropriate session here. You cannot create a recurring detention from this screen.

Parent notifications and late explanations
If automatic Personal Notifications are enabled in your detention settings, parents or guardians receive a message when their student is added.
You can also ask support about limiting how long parents have to explain a late, for example until the end of the same school day. This is an optional school setting, not the default for every school.
